In 2007, this program was renamed \u201cThe Alphonse Engelman Safety Awards Program\u201d in honor of past TCA president and champion of tilt-up construction safety, Al Engelman. Engelman helped introduce this industry awards program that now bears his name.<\/p>\n<p>Presented annually at the TCA Convention, the Alphonse Engelman Safety Awards program was developed to enhance the TCA\u2019s overall mission to improve the industry through recognition and education, while providing a special emphasis on safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel it is important to keep safety as a top priority and the Safety Awards program is a way of honoring firms that succeed in creating a safe jobsite,\u201d said Mitch Bloomquist, managing director for the TCA.<\/p>\n<p>The TCA\u2019s Safety Awards Program recognizes companies based on the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award: recognizes the firm with the lowest incident rate in 2013. Multiple companies with a zero Incident rate will result in the award given to the company with the highest number of annual work hours.<\/li>\n<li>Most Improved Safety Achievement Award: recognizes the firm with the most improved incident rate in 2013 from the numbers reported in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Zero Lost time Accident Achievement Award: provided to all submitting companies who achieved an incident rate of zero for 2013.<\/li>\n<li>Certificate of Recognition: awarded to all companies whose incident rate fell below the national average for structure contractors, a number that is made available by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Submissions must be received by TCA no later than Aug. 8, 2014. The application is available for download <a href=\"https:\/\/tilt-up.org\/tilt-uptoday\/es\/awards\/safety\/\" target=\"_blank\">aqu\u00ed<\/a>.
