<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nTILT\u2019s Founding and Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2018, the TCA\u2019s board of directors established a young professionals collaborative called TILT. The primary goals behind founding this group were to provide access to TCA\u2019s cross-disciplinary resources and offer support to the industry\u2019s future leaders by offering self-initiating programs that examine today\u2019s design and construction challenges. A total of 39 individuals were selected to participate in a kick-off event in Las Vegas on January 22, 2019, during World of Concrete. At that event, participants were charged with formulating their mission, programming, and structure through a series of exercises designed by a professional facilitator and created with the objectives and policies set forth by TCA\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since TILT\u2019s founding just two years ago, the group has had a tremendous impact on TCA\u2019s programming and have advised the board of directors on major structural issues. Current initiatives include the formation of a mentorship program, a tilt-up details study, technical hotline restructuring, social media programing, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Value of Meetings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Through its formation and development, TILT thrived on in-person meetings, and the importance of face-to-face interaction was deemed an essential tool for success. To that end, the TCA invested tens of thousands of dollars over the last two years on in-person events and activities for the group. Because the coronavirus pandemic interrupted the group\u2019s ability to meet in person, a virtual event will have to suffice for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n TILT leaders agreed on the importance of planning ahead for a day that would be dedicated to this work. They felt their employers could better support a single day of professional development rather than sporadic time away from regular work. This also allows for more efficiency as members are not being asked to fit 30-minute Categories of Engagement (COE) meetings in between high-priority, work-related tasks, causing an inevitable divide in attention. This approach also affords TILT members the ability to keep a good share of their volunteer work from seeping into their time with family, friends, and interests that are not related to work or the TCA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n TILT\u2019s January Event<\/p>\n\n\n\n The January 13 work-day event will open with a panel discussion led by TILT\u2019s leadership group. This will be followed by short introductions to the various COE that structure the group\u2019s foci.
