Company Profile

Washington County is one of the fastest growing counties in the West. It's landscapes reflect the defining features of the Colorado Plateau: flat-lying layers of red sedimentary rock shaped into buttes, mesas, and narrow canyons, along with striking bands of orange, white, and brown sandstone. The region’s Mojave Desert climate is equally demanding, with summer temperatures well above 100 degrees and winter daytime highs often in the 50s and 60s. Together, these natural and climatic conditions called for school buildings that were both visually compatible with their surroundings and resilient in a harsh environment. To better reflect the surrounding landscape while improving energy efficiency and durability, district leadership adopted tilt- as their go to up method of construction 30 years ago. They built their first integrally colored tilt-up concrete high school directly next to a two-year-old stucco school. Although initial cost was still low, durability and aesthetics became much more important in the design process. Snow Canyon High School’s red concrete panels seemed to rise naturally from the landscape, demonstrating that tilt-up construction could be both resilient and visually compelling. What began as a practical response to maintenance concerns soon revealed the broader architectural potential of exposed concrete. in 2026, the district will complete its 60th tilt up facility of 75 total facilities owned. One school in particular, the Fossil Ridge Intermediate School, was recognized by Ed Sauter of the TCA in 2008 as one of the top 10 tilt-ups in the world.
