This presentation highlights studies conducted over a 20-year period showing that the virtual reality (VR) immersive training environment decreases the time needed to teach a soft skill by four times, and retention increases by four times! The VR training environment is an immersive training concept that allows real-world training situations to be tested in a safer, controlled environment. We will discuss current companies using this immersive tool in various applications that can be applied to safety scenarios; these include hospitals and physical therapy providers using VR for people with traumatic brain injuries, major financial institutions who use immersive training on managers to test decision skills in various situations, major retailers who have thousands of VR units in locations across the country to provide problem-solving, and soft skills training for workers. Other industries use immersive training as new employee orientation and hazard recognition.
