Modifying existing tilt-up panels requires confidence in what lies beneath the surface. This live demonstration showcases how ground-penetrating radar (GPR) can be used to locate embedded reinforcement and other subsurface objects before drilling, coring, cutting, or anchoring. Attendees will observe the scanning process, learn how to interpret results, and see how non-destructive investigation can reduce rework, improve jobsite safety, and help preserve the structural integrity of tilt-up wall panels.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Identify embedded reinforcement and other subsurface objects prior to drilling, coring, or cutting concrete panels.
- Observe how ground-penetrating radar is used to evaluate existing tilt-up construction without damaging the structure.
- Interpret scan results to support safer field decisions and more accurate work planning.
- Recognize the benefits and practical limitations of GPR technology when modifying existing tilt-up structures.
