Speed, Performance, Economics: The New Approach for Braced Frames in Tilt-Up Construction

September 28, 2019 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm Central Standard Time

M103-105

Tom Liu, PE

Bryant Cunningham

Buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) have dramatically altered the landscape of tilt-up warehouse construction by offering significant advantages in cost, speed of erection, and performance. They also eliminate the need for support columns that are often used at the intersection points of traditional braces. Proper implementation of these structural members will save design time for the engineer, reduce fabrication costs, and lead to a more time-efficient construction schedule for the fabricator and contractor. The resulting building will be safer and will have lower costs for the owner, while also providing greater warehouse functionality. This seminar will explore how BRBs function and how they are being implemented to provide smart solutions that result in more economical, more functional, and safer building design.
