TCA Conducting Tilt-Up Market Analysis

Market Analysis

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) is conducting research on tilt-up industry market trends and developments in the U.S. and Canada.

From 1995 through 2008 the TCA tracked the volume of tilt-up in the United States and Canada. The industry grew from 332.5 million square feet of tilt-up construction in 1995 to 790.1 million square feet in 2007. Aside from small declines in 1999, 2001 and 2002, the volume grew steadily during that period until it fell to 574.6 million square feet in 2008. In 2009, the TCA stopped reporting. “Market instability led to insufficient data in 2009 and 2010,” said Mitch Bloomquist, executive director for the Tilt-Up Concrete Association. “We use lifting insert sales as a key metric in our calculations and there were major changes occurring during that period that caused for lost or corrupt data.”

Working with Dayton Superior and Meadow Burke, the two leading suppliers of lifting and bracing systems for tilt-up construction, the TCA has since restored its reporting system and will publish tilt-up volume for 2011 through 2014 as part of an extensive market analysis this summer.

“This data fills a large void in the information currently available on the tilt-up industry,” said Kim Corwin, past president of the TCA and president & CEO of A.H. Harris & Sons, Inc. “The study will prove valuable to our members as they contemplate marketing strategies and allocate funds for promoting their products and services.”

To compliment the overall volume numbers, the TCA has developed a survey to collect additional data. Contractors working in the tilt-up industry are asked to complete the ten-question survey by May 15, 2015. General contractors who are not self-performing their tilt-up concrete are asked to forward the survey along to the concrete subcontractors in their network.

“Utilizing the responses from this survey coupled with the overall numbers we have, we will be able to extrapolate telling data that will be useful to many companies engaged in the tilt-up industry,” said Bloomquist.
