TCA Announces New Board Members

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) – a non-profit international organization that serves to expand and improve the use of tilt-up as the preferred building system – has elected three new board members for the 2014 year.

The new board members were announced at the TCA’s annual meeting, which took place at the 2014 World of Concrete in January.

Elected to three-year terms on the Board for the first time are:

  • Tim Manherz: Operations Manager, TAS Commercial Concrete (Houston, Texas)
  • Luke Eliot: General Manager, BD Stevens Limited (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada)
  • Mark Reed: President, E.E. Reed Construction (Houston, Texas)

“These new members bring extensive industry experience to the table and are well-respected leaders in their markets,” said Mitch Bloomquist, Managing Director for the TCA.

Kimberly Corwin of A.H. Harris & Sons (Newington, Conn.) will continue to serve as president of the TCA Board of Directors. Corwin has more than 20 years of experience in the concrete construction industry and is currently the president and chief operating officer of A.H. Harris. She has promoted the growth of tilt-up construction in the northeast region through numerous educational events and A/E presentations.

Other officers serving the Board for 2014 are:

  • President-elect: Shane Miller, President of DIVCON, Inc. (Spokane Valley, Wash.)
  • Secretary: James Williams, P.E., C.E., S.E., AIA of ae urbia and J.M. Williams and Associates, Inc. (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Treasurer: Andrew S. McPherson, President of Seretta Construction (Apopka, Fla.)

Those continuing service on the Board are:

  • Tom Stecker of Thermomass (Boone, Iowa)
  • Barclay Gebel of Concrete Strategies, LLC (St. Louis, Mo.)
  • Jeffrey Brown, AIA, of Powers Brown Architecture (Houston, Texas)
  • Frank Adames of Contratistas Civiles y Mecanicos (CCM) (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)
  • Mike Denson of Innovative Brick Systems, LLC (Broomfield, Colo.)
  • Mark Johnson, P.E., S.E.C.B of Johnson Structural Group (Boca Raton, Fla.)
  • Scott Collins, P.E. of Meadow Burke (Sacramento, Calif.)
  • Matthew Bell, P.E. of LJB, Inc., Facilities Division (Dayton, Ohio)

“I feel we have an incredibly strong and diverse set of voices guiding this association and look forward to a continued expansion of our organization’s impact in the industry,” said Bloomquist.

 

TIM MANHERZ

Tim Manherz is the Vice President of Operations for TAS Commercial Concrete Construction. Tim began his relationship with TAS in 1993 as a project superintendent, advancing his way through the ranks of Superintendent, General Superintendent, and Field Operations Manager until he reached the position he holds today.

Tim graduated with Honors from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction, and was selected as Outstanding Graduate of his class. After graduation, Tim was recruited by Hensel Phelps Construction as a Field Engineer, and quickly made the move up to lead Field Engineer.  Tim has amassed more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, with his primary focus being concrete work.  This vast experience allows him to train, mentor, and retain many of the outstanding TAS employees. He is a certified ACI Flatwork Technician and holds NRMCA Pervious Concrete Certification. Tim is also a certified TCA Supervisor and an active member of the ASCC and the Houston Chapter of the ACI.

TAS consistently produces over 140 jobs annually, with over 30% being tilt-up construction. Ranked as the #1 Tilt-Up Concrete Contractor by Concrete Construction Magazine in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009, TAS is also the first and only specialty contractor to be recognized in both Houston and Dallas as an OSHA Partner.

Recently, TAS generously volunteered their time and resources to ensure the 2013 TCA Convention was a pinnacle of success.  Tim was a key component of the execution of the mega-outdoor demo, the Veteran’s Memorial, to honor our soldiers who passed while serving our country.

 

LUKE ELLIOT

Luke Elliot serves as General Manager for B.D. Stevens Limited and is responsible for sourcing, tendering, negotiating, cost control and site supervision for all BD Stevens Ltd projects, institutional, commercial and industrial. Luke has over ten years of experience in liaising with consulting teams and subcontractors on behalf of BD Stevens Limited; organization of construction projects; efficient construction management practices; and effective scheduling, cost and quality control.

B.D. Stevens Limited is the original founding company of what has grown to become the Stevens Group of Companies. The Stevens Group of Companies is a privately held third generation family business with its head office located in the Burnside Industrial Park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. B.D. Stevens Limited has specialized in the design-build project delivery method for over 25 years, having built over 300 design-build projects during this time frame.

B.D. Stevens Limited has garnered several awards from TCA in recognition of its dedication and excellence in projects utilizing tilt-up construction. Most recently they received a Tilt-Up Achievement Award for their ISL Web Marketing Headquarters in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada.

MARK REED

A native of Sugar Land, TX, Mark is poised as the next generation of leadership at E.E. Reed Construction. Mark began working at E.E. Reed during summers in high school at Strake Jesuit Preparatory School. He started first as a laborer, then moved to carpenter, and finally became a field engineer. His father wanted him to experience every level of the organization.

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Construction Science in 1997, Mark joined Reed as an Assistant Project Manager. After years of learning the ropes, becoming a Project Manager, then Senior Project Manager, Mark was promoted to Vice President in 2004. He currently serves as President of the organization, overseeing all types of construction projects. Mark came up through the ranks at E.E. Reed and enjoys working with his father on a day-to-day basis while the succession of leadership materializes.

Mark was instrumental to the success of the 2013 TCA Convention in Houston, Texas. Serving as the general contractor for the TCA Community Project and as a leader on the host committee, Mark contributed significant time and resources to ensure the event was successful.
