TCA Announces Call for Entries for 2012 Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) – a non-profit international organization that serves to expand and improve the use of Tilt-Up as the preferred building system – has announced the call for entries for the seventh annual safety awards.

The Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards Program honors Al Engelman, a TCA past president and board member as well as a long-time supporter of the Tilt-Up industry. Engelman helped introduce this industry awards program that now bears his name.

Presented at TCA’s Annual Convention on Oct. 2 in Amelia Island, Fla., the Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Awards program was developed to enhance the TCA’s overall mission to improve the industry through recognition and education, providing a new component emphasizing safety.

“The vision of the TCA Safety Committee is to educate contractors of the safety benefits of Tilt-Up, to recognize companies who put safe work practices in place and highlight the results of their efforts,” said Barclay Gebel, chair of the TCA Safety Committee. “The TCA continues to increase attention and support of the safety process as we look forward to continued growth of our industry.”

TCA’s Safety Awards Program recognizes companies based on the following categories:

  • Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award: recognizes the firm with the lowest incident rate in 2011. Multiple companies with a zero Incident rate will result in the award given to the company with the highest number of annual work hours.
  • Most Improved Safety Achievement Award: recognizes the firm with the most improved incident rate in 2011 from the numbers reported in 2010.
  • Zero Lost time Accident Achievement Award: provided to all submitting companies who achieved an incident rate of zero for 2011.
  • Certificate of Recognition: awarded to all companies whose incident rate fell below the national average for structure contractors, a number that was made available by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Submissions must be received by TCA no later than August 15, 2012. The application is available for download at http://www.tilt-up.org/awards/safety. The winners will be announced at the 2012 TCA Annual Convention in Amelia Island, Florida, October 2-4. This program is for self-performing contractors only. Contractors with a fatality in 20011 are ineligible.
