TCA Welcomes New Employee

TCA increased its staff by nearly 100% effective August 1.

Mitch Bloomquist, a Cedar Rapids, Iowa native, has joined the Sauter Baty management team as a full-time employee of the TCA. Mitch’s background and training is similar to that of Jim and myself in that his education was in architecture. After working for a couple of years at a Cedar Rapids firm, Mitch decided he was up for a bigger challenge and a change in career paths. Mitch wasn’t new to us as he interned for the Mount Vernon City Commission during his summers (working out of our office) while attending Cornell College in Mount Vernon. He finished his education at Washington University in Saint Louis.

We have to un-teach Mitch what he has learned in architecture school and while working for an architect but Mitch is a fast learner. What we can’t undo, we’ll see if we can get a few of our contractor members to set him straight. Mitch’s personality, work ethic, and dedication are something we have been looking for the past several years. We like him and we think you will too.

Increasing our overhead while the economy is faltering might be considered a risk but, as one board member put it, that’s why we build our reserve. As most of you know, business volume may be down but the amount of work per employee is as high, if not higher, than it was before the slow-down.

Mitch’s initial responsibilities will be the awards programs and publications. Later he will work into meeting planning, committee liaison work, and as he becomes more familiar with the intricacies of Tilt-Up, some technical and member duties. Jim and I will continue to handle golf, wine, coffee and other related responsibilities.

If your plans this winter include a trip to the World of Concrete, make sure you stop by and meet Mitch. He will be the one doing all the work. He can be reached at our office at 319-895-6911 number or at mbloomquist@tilt-up.org.
