TCA and ACI Enter into Cooperative Memorandum of Understanding

TCA has announced that they have entered into a memorandum of understanding with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) to minimize duplication of activities and to cooperate in areas of technical committees, educational seminars, publications, certification and other related activities.

TCA will primarily represent the Tilt-Up industry in the development of reliable technical information, guidelines for field procedures, application and practices as well as maintenance. ACI will be responsible for developing concrete codes, standards and guidelines in the areas of concrete materials, design and repair.

“This understanding will benefit the membership of both organizations,” said Ed Sauter, executive director of the TCA. “Both associations will work in a cooperative environment to advance the industry and ensure that our respective memberships have all the materials and data they need to grow their businesses. We have enjoyed a great relationship with ACI for years and this agreement formalizes the direction that each association will pursue.”

As part of the agreement, TCA has created an ex-officio position for an ACI representative on its Board of Directors. Douglas Sordyl, P.E., LEED AP will be filling this post.

“We are excited to have Doug as a member of the TCA Board of Directors,” said Sauter. “His involvement will further strengthen the relationship between TCA and ACI and we believe his input will add value to our organization.”

Sordyl serves as the managing director of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Industry Affairs and also as managing director of the Strategic Development Council. Prior to joining ACI in 2004, Sordyl spent 30 years in a multi- disciplined, architectural/engineering consulting firm as a structural engineer, project manager and in operations. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Detroit. Further, he holds professional engineering registrations in Michigan and California and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

As the managing director of ACI Industry Affairs, Sordyl helps ACI build stronger alliances with other concrete, construction and code organizations. He also is the managing director of the ACI’s Strategic Development Council (SDC), which is comprised of concrete industry companies whose top executives work together to focus on industry critical technologies/issues, identify barriers to the acceptance of those technologies or to the resolution of those issues, and bring resources to bear on these focused priorities to remove those barriers.
