This facility is the new Virginia office/distribution facility for Republic National Distributing Company, which moved from an existing location in the Richmond, Virginia area. The purpose was to create a signature local appearance for a national distributor of wine and spirits. The facility is located on major highway corridor fronting US 1 and the rear of the building facing I-95.
The majority of the office portion of the building is oriented with a due west exposure. The intent of the design was to limit the level of sunlight penetrating into the building during peak hours. An unintended benefit we were able to increase the mezzanine square footage with the three degree outward tilt of the panels without increasing the footprint. The other unintended consequence of the design is the vertical orientation of entrance panels creates an optical illusion where the leaning panels appear to be vertical and the panels at the entrances appear to be leaning inward.
