When Diase was hired for this construction project, the initial design consisted of a concrete block construction. Being experts in tilt-up construction system and acknowledging our client's concerns on environmental impact, construction cost and completion time, Diase advised the adoption of tilt-up system as a final solution to meet the client's needs.

The building is presented as a large and cubic volume. In order to counterbalance this solid and heavy appearance, curved panels were projected in the main facade. These panels were the main challenge for Diase, as they had never built curved panels before. During the process they were able to cast them in stacks, reducing the formwork time and materials. Details such as horizontal friezes and the textures were also used to lighten the facade.

The success of this construction project was highlighted by the achievement of its objectives such as the positive environmental transformation of the site, rationalization of resources on the construction, recycling of 90% of construction wasted material, use of 100% natural lighting in the main warehouse during the day, full sewage treatment, generation of local employment, and economic development.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
