The Relevance of Changing Political and Regulatory Issues on the Construction Industry

Presenter: Richard Szecsy
Date and time: Friday, September 29 - 10:30a to 11:30a

Growth can be a great thing. In Texas, the population growth is driving construction demand. As a result, the ability to supply aggregates, cement, and concrete is under pressure, and not from the usual sources. Changes in political philosophies, regulatory bodies, and local communities are challenging the manner in which we conduct business within the concrete construction community.

This discussion will explore those issues via case examples, statistics, and some bold predictions about where the market is going. These issues are not just native to Texas, but in any market where similar dynamics exist.

About the Speaker

Richard Szecsy is widely recognized as a national expert in the areas of concrete technologies, recycled materials, concrete construction, and concrete sustainability and resiliency, and in 2014 was named one of the most Influential People in the concrete industry by Concrete Producer magazine.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
