Engineering And Erecting The World’s Tallest Tilt-Up Panel

Presenters: Gary Fischer - President at Woodland Tilt-Up, Mark Johnson, PE, SECB - Johnson Structural Group, Inc.

Date and time: Friday, September 29 - 9:45a to 10:30a

The record for the world’s tallest tilt-up panel was shattered in November (2016) when Woodland Construction Co. of Jupiter, Fla. erected a 111-foot 9-inch tall panel. The record-breaking panel forms part of a nine-story, 600-bed dormitory for Florida International University at their Biscayne Bay Campus located in North Miami, Florida.

During this seminar, the design and construction teams will share the story of this panel and their approach to this record-breaking project.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
