Technology for Today’s Tilt-Up Projects

Session: 2-4B

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 29 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm

Location: Garden State Ballroom

Speaker: Sean Drury and Erik Naccarato

CE: 1.0 LU/PDH

Many times, preliminary plans for a tilt-up project are released for estimates without any design information for the tilt-up concrete panels. The contractor must then work with their specialty structural engineer to quickly develop a cost effective design in order to prepare an accurate and timely estimate for the project.

To compete effectively in today’s construction marketplace, the successful contractor must utilize all available technology to its maximum capabilities. In this presentation, attendees will see an example of one contractor’s use of available integrated technology for design optimization, estimating and drawing creation to secure a project and speed time to construction, all with increased accuracy and efficiency. Working closely with the structural engineer, they were able to design and deliver a successful project.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand importance of panel designs in order to prepare an accurate and timely estimate for projects.
  • Understand the importance of using technology to its maximum capabilities.
  • Identify available integrated technology.
  • Understand how tilt-up construction provides extreme storm resistant structures.
  • Understand the economical solutions for heighted safety and resistance.
  • Identify cost effective examples of structural upgrades.
  • Understand load capacity when tilt-up concrete construction is used with other structural materials.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
