Stephen Pelham is a licensed Structural Engineer in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Hawaii.  He holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and has over 35 years of experience in the design of public and private sector projects. Mr. Pelham’s projects have received awards from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association, Structural Engineers Association of California, and American Institute of Architects.

Mr. Pelham is currently the Chief Executive Officer and a Principal at Barrish Pelham and Associates in Sacramento, CA. He serves as a Principal in Charge of structural design projects and has been retained as a structural engineering expert in over 100 legal cases. Under his leadership, Barrish Pelham was selected by Structural Engineer Magazine as the 2013 Best Structural Engineering Firm to Work For in the nation.

Mr. Pelham has been active in many professional organizations. He has served on the Board of the Applied Technology Council, Cal Poly ARCE Advisory, Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange, and Structural Engineers Association of California. Mr. Pelham was elected to the Structural Engineers Association College of Fellows in 2005 in recognition of his professional accomplishments.

A Hybrid Solution - FCUSD Education Services Center

During this session, Mr. Pelham provides information on the performance of tilt-up concrete construction during past earthquakes, current seismic code provisions for tilt up concrete, and a practical approach to the design of multi-story tilt-up concrete structures in earthquake country.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
