Mr. Steinbicker founded Steinbicker & Associates, Consulting Structural Engineers in 1982 and currently serves as President and CEO of the firm.  He began his career as a structural engineer in 1976 after obtaining his Master of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.  With over 38 years of experience as a consulting structural engineer, he is licensed to practice in ten states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

An accomplished professional in the structural engineering and construction industry, Mr. Steinbicker provides structural engineering services for clients in the private and public sectors, specializing in the design of structural steel, plant cast precast and tilt-up concrete building systems.  To date, he has been responsible for the design of more than 400 tilt-up buildings encompassing over 30,000,000 square feet throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.  He was actively involved in the early development and design of multi-story tilt-up buildings, incorporating both the full height and stacked panel concepts.  He was also responsible for the development of a hybrid concrete parking garage system incorporating load bearing tilt-up concrete panels, site cast precast concrete columns and site cast precast/prestressed concrete beams built compositely with a cast-in-place concrete deck.

Mr. Steinbicker is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute and the American Institute of Steel Construction.  He is a charter member and past chairman of ACI Committee 551, Tilt-Up Concrete Construction and was a charter member of ACI Committee C650, Tilt-Up Constructor Certification.  He is also a founding member of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) and past member of their Board of Directors.

Mr. Steinbicker most recently co-authored the book, Engineering Tilt-Up, published by the TCA in 2013.  He has also authored or co-authored the following articles: “Minimizing Risks When Lifting and Bracing Today’s Tilt-Up Structures,” Concrete Construction Magazine, January 2005; “Tilt-Up Building Seismic Design – Precast or Cast-in Place,” Structure Magazine, January 2008; “Multi-Story Tilt-Up Buildings – A Design Approach”, Structure Magazine, July 2008. He has been a featured speaker at numerous industry events including TCA annual conventions, ACI conventions and regional seminars on structural engineering and tilt-up engineering and design.

Mr. Steinbicker received the David L. Kelly Distinguished Engineer Award for 2013.  This award was created by the TCA to recognize members of the Tilt-Up industry who are committed to pursuing engineering excellence and advancing the industry.

Low-Rise Concrete Building Systems: Engineering Tilt-Up

Based on a new publication from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association titled "Engineering Tilt-Up" by Timothy W. Mays, Ph.D., P.E. and Joseph J. Steinbicker, P.E., S.E., this seminar will cover basic engineering principles and code interpretation as well as in depth analysis of a tilt-up structure and its components.

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
