Part 1 | 9:00a - 12:00p

  • Load determination – gravity, wind, seismic, and snow (ASCE/SEI 7-10 and focusing on code changes and practical applications)
  • Flexible, rigid, and semi-rigid diaphragm design and detailing
  • Slender wall design (based on ACI 318-11)
  • Modeling low rise concrete shear walls (hand methods vs. finite element approaches)
  • Foundation design

Part 2 | 12:00p - 3:00p

  • One story 3 sided buildings subjected to lateral loads
  • Diaphragms with expansion joints
  • Concrete shear wall analysis, design, and detailing
  • Simplified modeling of multistory shear wall buildings in areas of high seismicity
  • Modeling continuous foundations

A working lunch will be served at 12:00p.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
